I went for a short day trip with my fellow Canadian friend Matt. We travelled for about one hour outside of Frankfurt and our first stop was Wiesbaden.
As soon as we arrived there we went to a majestic park full of luscious plantlife. This park is the home of one of the oldest casinos. A lot of famous writers from Russia came there and lost all of their money at that very casino. After the park we went off to the world’s largest cuckoo clock. It was probably as high as two persons. It looked very traditionally german.
Wiesbaden is a very laid back city. It is quite expensive. I would recommend this place to an older tourist. Yet, it is still worth checking out the old architectural buildings and cathedrals.
Mainz was the next stop on our adventure. It is located just across the Rhine river from Wiesbaden. Mainz was once the capital of the northern catholic church. It has some very nice cathdrals and has a complex simlular to the Vatican.

Mainz has a much more upbeat atmosphere. There are a lot of pubs and young people. I would advise a younger traveller to experience this place. And I would also encourage an entire day dedicated to Mainz.
